Academic: Rich is a Communication Studies scholar whose research has been published in scholarly journals and books, and he presents regularly at local, regional, and national conferences. He is the author of the textbooks Our Communication, Our World: An Introduction to Communication Studies and Communication in the Real World, published by Flat World.
Educator: Rich has been recognized for teaching excellence by the Illinois Communication and Theatre Association, Eastern Illinois University, and the Rocky Mountain Communication Association. November 2019 - Rich Receives Textbook of Distinction Award
Rich received the Textbook of Distinction Award from the National Communication Association’s Basic Course Division in 2019. The award was presented at the national conference in Baltimore in November.
2019 - Rich Earns Certification in Adult Mental Health First Aid
Rich earned certification in Adult Mental Health First Aid. The training for this certification develops knowledge and skills needed to provide comfort and help reduce distress for people experiencing mental health distress ranging from depression to substance abuse to psychosis to trauma. The certification is valid until 2022.
